What to do around Bilancino Lake

The first stop of my trip was in the charming town of Barberino del Mugello. Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, this picturesque town is the perfect introduction to the region’s beauty. Just a short distance away, I discovered the stunning Bilancino Lake. This serene lake offers a refreshing escape with its clear waters, ideal for a leisurely swim or a peaceful paddle. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, Bilancino Lake is a hidden gem that perfectly captures the tranquil essence of the Tuscan countryside.

So, here my selection of best-things to do around Bilancino Lake:

I spent a night here, in a beautiful villa near the lake. The day after I had a long relaxing breakfast before leaving. Next stop: Monteriggioni.

A quick stop in San Casciano in Val di Pesa

As I made my way to the enchanting medieval village of Monteriggioni, I took a delightful detour to San Casciano in Val di Pesa. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Chianti region, San Casciano is a quintessential Tuscan town brimming with history and charm. The town itself is a picturesque blend of narrow cobblestone streets, rustic stone buildings, and inviting piazzas, where locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy the laid-back Tuscan lifestyle. One of the highlights of my visit was the Church of Santa Maria del Prato, with its beautiful frescoes and serene atmosphere. Just outside the town, the surrounding countryside offers an array of activities for nature and wine enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, I spent only a few hours here, but if you have more time I highly suggest to have a memorable afternoon touring local vineyards and indulging in some of the finest Chianti wines, accompanied by traditional Tuscan fare. The rolling vineyards, olive groves, and cypress-lined roads provided a stunning backdrop for leisurely walks and bike rides, offering a true taste of the region’s natural beauty. San Casciano in Val di Pesa proved to be a delightful and enriching stop, perfectly capturing the essence of Tuscany’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Time to leave San Casciano and go to the beautiful town of Monteriggioni. Let’s continue with my ultimate travel guide for your long weekends: Exploring Umbria and Tuscany!

Beautiful town Orvieto

I finally arrived in Orvieto just before sunset. I was greeted by the warm hues of the evening sky casting a golden glow over this historic hilltop town. After a day filled with exploration, I checked in at the charming Agriturismo Cuccioleta. This is a beautifully restored farmhouse nestled just outside the ancient walls of Orvieto. The agriturismo, surrounded by lush vineyards and olive groves, offered a perfect blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort, providing a serene retreat after a day on the road. Eager to experience the magic of Orvieto at dusk, I quickly made my way to the town’s summit.

From the top, the panoramic views were nothing short of breathtaking. The fading sunlight bathed the medieval rooftops and the majestic Orvieto Cathedral in a soft, amber light, creating a picturesque scene that felt almost timeless. As I stood there, taking in the sweeping vistas of the Umbrian countryside, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of peace and wonder. Upon arriving in the Livorno countryside, I checked in at a beautiful agriturismo. This rustic yet elegant farmhouse offered a perfect blend of tranquility and comfort, surrounded by idyllic landscapes that seemed straight out of a postcard.

As evening fell, I ventured out for a culinary experience that was nothing short of extraordinary. I dined at a renowned “macelleria”, known for its exceptional Fiorentina steak.
