Breakfast at Elan Coffee

My day began with a visit to Elan Coffee, a charming café nestled in the heart of London. Actually there are several El&N locations in London: I choose the one just near my hotel in South Kensington. It is highly renowned for its Instagram-worthy interiors adorned with floral decorations and pastel hues. So, Elan Coffee offers more than just aesthetic appeal, believe me!

As I stepped inside, I was greeted by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. And the sight of decadent pastries lining the display case welcomed me in this heaven. My choice was obvious! Their signature avocado toast paired with a velvety flat white, savoring every bite amidst the cozy ambiance. I really appreciate the attention to detail in the presentation and the quality of ingredients truly elevated the breakfast experience, making it a perfect start to my day of exploration. After the avocado (shared with my sister) we also ordered the cheesecake. I can’t described in words the taste and my experience… it was amazing! I suggest you to try it in person! Staff is very kindly and nice, so don’t think about it twice.. this is the place for dreaming breakfast!

Samba time: dinner experience at Sushi Samba

As the evening approached, I found myself at Sushi Samba Covent Garden for dinner with my sister. This is a culinary gem that combines Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian influences to create a fusion dining experience like no other. Sushi Samba has several locations: we chose the perched atop the iconic Covent Garden Market Building. The restaurant boasts panoramic views of the city skyline, providing a breathtaking backdrop for an unforgettable dinner.

The menu at Sushi Samba is a symphony of flavors. Actually, it features an eclectic mix of sushi, sashimi, and innovative dishes crafted with the freshest ingredients. Best speakeasies in London

Another curious thing I discover during my trip in London is the “speakeasy”. Do you know it? Let me explain to you! As for the definition of a speakeasy, it refers to an establishment that illegally sold alcoholic beverages during the Prohibition era in the United States (1920-1933). Speakeasies were often hidden from view and required a secret password or special invitation for entry to avoid detection by law enforcement. Today, speakeasies have experienced a revival as themed bars that pay homage to the clandestine nature of these historic venues, offering patrons a unique and immersive drinking experience.

So, here my selection of speakeasies and few words about each place:

  • Evans & Peel Detective Agency: This speakeasy is designed to resemble a detective agency from the 1920s, complete with a hidden entrance behind a bookcase. Guests must ring a doorbell and provide a password to gain entry.
  • The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town: Hidden beneath a cafe, this speakeasy requires patrons to enter through a refrigerator door. Inside, guests can enjoy craft cocktails in a cozy, retro atmosphere.
  • Cahoots: Located in an abandoned underground station. It transports guests back to post-war London with its themed decor and vintage cocktails served in teacups and hip flasks.
  • The Blind Pig: Tucked away above a pub in Soho. It offers a sophisticated speakeasy experience with a focus on inventive cocktails and small plates.
  • The Bootlegger: Inspired by the Prohibition era. It features live jazz music and an extensive menu of classic cocktails served in a clandestine setting reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy.
