Antinori Family and wineries

First of all, let’s take a closer look on the name Antinori and Antinori family. The Antinori family stands as an indomitable force in the realm of winemaking: their legacy spanning an impressive 26 generations. With roots deeply entrenched in the fertile soils of Tuscany, the Antinoris have been pioneers in the art of viticulture since 1385, navigating through tumultuous historical epochs with unwavering dedication to their craft. Their historic wineries, such as the illustrious Antinori in Chianti Classico, serve as living testaments to their enduring commitment to quality and innovation. The family has several wonderful wineries across Tuscany and Umbria.

Here you can find all the wineries locations and information. At the moment I only visited Antinori in Chianti, but I plan to visit all in the future.

A Symphony of architecture and landscape

Antinori in Chianti winery is located in Chianti region, alonf Florence – Siena motorway connection. As you approach the winery, the landscape unfolds like a masterpiece, with rows of vines basking in the golden Tuscan sun. The winery was designed by the renowned architect Marco Casamonti, one of the founder of architectural firm ARCHEA Associates: Antinori in Chianti Winery seamlessly integrates into its surroundings, with its sleek lines and earthy tones echoing the natural beauty of the region.

The architecture of Antinori in Chianti Winery is a masterful blend of tradition and modernity, a testament to the estate’s rich heritage and innovative spirit. As you step inside, you’re greeted by a captivating juxtaposition of old and new, where centuries-old winemaking traditions seamlessly coexist with cutting-edge technology. The interior spaces exude a sense of elegance and sophistication, with clean, minimalist design elements that allow the winemaking process to take center stage. From the spacious tasting rooms to the state-of-the-art cellars, every aspect of the architecture is meticulously crafted to enhance the visitor’s experience, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and reverence for the art of winemaking. Material, shapes, color, finishing, all is so curated and researched. The architectural marvel of the winery’s interior reflects this blend, with its contemporary design elements paying homage to the past while embracing the future.

If you want to have more information about the architecture, the project and site construction of this masterpiece, I highly recommend you to watch this documentary on ISPLORA platform.

A Sensorial Journey

As you embark on a guided tour of the winery, your senses are awakened by the sights, sounds, and aromas of winemaking in action. From the rhythmic dance of grapes being sorted to the tantalizing scent of oak barrels aging gracefully, every step of the winemaking process is a testament to Antinori’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

Each bottle produced by the Antinori family is not merely a product but a narrative, a story that encapsulates generations of wisdom, tradition, and an unyielding pursuit of excellence. From the iconic Super Tuscans to the elegant Chiantis, every sip of Antinori wine transports the imbiber on a journey through time, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Italy’s winemaking heritage. As stewards of tradition and visionaries of the future, the Antinori family continues to shape the landscape of the wine world, their passion and expertise serving as guiding stars for generations to come.

Tasting the Terroir

No visit to Antinori in Chianti Winery is complete without indulging in a tasting experience that transcends the ordinary. Guided by expert sommeliers, you’ll sample a selection of Antinori’s finest wines, each one a reflection of the unique terroir and winemaking philosophy that defines the estate. To discover the most beautiful winery in Italy, I chose to do the “Tinaia visit package” that end with the tasting experience of three red incredible wines. Here below more information about the wines. I highly suggest to book the experience and the visit in advance because the winery is always fully booked weeks before. You can book the visit directly on Antinori website.

I tasted three Antinori red wines:

  • “La vigna sul tetto”, Chianti Classico Riserva, San Giovese, Antinori in Chianti (it is made with the vineyard on the roof of the winery).
  • “Cont’Ugo”, Bolgheri D.O.C., Tenuta Guado al Tasso Antinori. Exclusively Merlot grapes to interpret the Bolgheri area from a new perspective. The vineyards, located at an altitude between 45 and 60 meters above sea level. on silty-clayey soils of predominantly alluvial origin, give Cont’Ugo great depth and complexity while preserving the fragrance and exuberance of the fruit typical of Merlot.
  • “Bramasole”, Syrah, La Braccesca. From the sunniest slice of vineyard, from the innovative spirit of the Antinori family, from one of the areas of Cortona most suited to the cultivation of quality Syrah, Bramasole is born, a wine capable of evolving over time and telling, according to a new variety, a territory with ancient winemaking tradition. The first produced vintage of Bramasole was 2000.

Beyond its winemaking prowess, Antinori in Chianti Winery offers a myriad of experiences for the curious traveler. Take a leisurely stroll through the vineyards, participate in a cooking class showcasing Tuscan culinary traditions, or simply soak in the breathtaking views from the winery’s terrace. Also, make sure to savor one final delight: a stop at Rinuccio Restaurant. Nestled within the estate, this culinary gem offers a tantalizing array of Tuscan delicacies paired perfectly with Antinori wines. Indulge in the flavors of the region while soaking in the picturesque views of the vineyards. It’s the perfect way to conclude your visit, leaving you with lasting memories of the exquisite tastes and sights of Tuscany.

Before leaving Antinori in Chianti Winery, be sure to visit the wine shop nestled within its walls. Here, you’ll discover a treasure trove of exquisite wines, each bottle a testament to the estate’s rich winemaking heritage and uncompromising quality. Whether you’re seeking a bold Super Tuscan or a refined Chianti Classico, the knowledgeable staff will guide you in selecting the perfect bottle to savor the memories of your visit.
